Do Blondes Have More Fun? Change Up Your Look to Find Out!

Beauty salons denver

There are many different hair colors out there, both natural and artificial, and people are always looking for new ways to change up their look. Changing your hair is a simple, relatively inexpensive, and not permanent. However, of all of the different looks out there, only 2% of the world’s population is born with naturally blonde hair. However, one in three women will dye their hair a shade of blonde at some point in their lifetime. Is it because blondes have more fun? Maybe.

If you’re looking for a new hair color, looking for hair care tips or new hair care products, or just checking out new hairstyle trends, here are some fun facts about blonde hair to help you along your way to the hair salon.

  1. Hair color is determined by the amount of melanin, or pigmentation is in the hair. There are two types of melanin in hair color: eumelanin and phaeomelanin. the more eumelanin, the darker the hair, and the more phaeomelanin, the redder the hair. Low levels of both of these are characteristic of blonde hair.
  2. There have been some questionable methods of blonde hair dye throughout history. In ancient Rome, they used pigeon dung, in Renaissance Venice: horse urine.
  3. Jean Harlow, Hollywood’s first blonde goddess, dyed her hair with peroxide, household bleach, soap flakes, ammonia, and other hair care products, until her hair finally fell out and she had to wear wigs.
  4. In fairytales, blonde hair often suggests strength, indestructibility, untarnished beauty, youth, and high value. Rapunzel, Rumpelstiltskin, Cinderella, and Goldilocks are well-known stories featuring flaxen-haired heroes.
  5. Blondes actually have more individual strands of hair on their heads than any other color. Blondes have approximately 140,000 hairs, as compared with 108,000 for darker-haired individuals.

The studies are inconclusive as to whether blondes have more fun, but what is true is that changing up your look and trying a new hairstyle can be a lot of fun. Whether it’s just for the night, or for a few weeks, a few months, or the rest of the year, why not try out some new hair care products, a new hairstyle, or even a new hair color? Don’t get bored and boring with the same old look. You may surprise even yourself by how much you like the new change.

Some of the signs and symptoms of fibroids like these include abdominal pain, pain during intercourse, and menstrual bleeding so heavy it can lead to the development of anemia.

While uterine fibroids surgery is the only proven, effective way to eliminate the problems fibroids cause, there are several other uterine fibroid treatments available, which means that some women who suffer from fibroids may actually be able to avoid surgery.

Here are just a couple of the different, uterine fibroids treatment options available.

Medicinal Treatments.

Certain symptoms of fibroids can actually be managed and maintained with prescriptive treatments. While these medicines cannot eliminate fibroids like uterine fibroids surgery can, they can ease the symptoms. In fact, they can even shrink the fibroids, which is why they’re often prescribed before uterine fibroids surgery.

Minimally Invasive Procedures.

Although uterine fibroid surgery is the most effective way to get rid of the tumors, there are other, minimally invasive, outpatient procedures that can destroy the growths. For example, radiofrequency ablation can eliminate all the fibroids, and just the fibroids using MRI-guided electrodes, which can easily find and eliminate every single tumor. Once the procedure is done, women need only a few days of recovery time at home.

Just because you’re suffering from fibroids does not necessarily mean that you need uterine fibroids surgery. There are many other treatment options, which may work best for you. If you have any questions about uterine fibroids surgery, feel free to ask in the comments.

Rhode Island Adds Urgent Care Center for Mental Health Problems

Sudden onset joint pain

If you are experiencing a non-life-threatening injury or illness, there are a number of reasons to head to the nearest urgent care clinic. For example, these medical walk in clinics often do not require appointments, have short waiting periods, and typically perform a variety of services, including X-rays and basic blood work. Moreover, urgent care is often considerably less expensive than emergency room care. But despite these benefits, urgent care centers are typically designed to treat medical problems, not mental health problems. Now, a new urgent care clinic in Rhode Island is suggesting that this may soon change.

Lifespan, Rhode Island’s largest health system, recently opened a psychiatric urgent care clinic and outpatient center in East Greenwich. The health system claims that the clinic is the area’s first of its kind, a statement few will likely contest, as urgent care facilities are typically designed for medical complaints. Officials at Lifespan also commented that Rhode Island has one of the highest rates of serious mental illness in the country. The new clinic is therefore meant to help people in the East Greenwich area better able to access health services and help Lifespan meet a prevalent need.

East Greenwich, RI is considered an affluent town, which belongs to one of the wealthiest municipalities in the state. While obtaining the affordability of immediate treatment is therefore likely not a major concern, there is no doubt that being able to seek care at the nearest urgent care clinic will likely be beneficial to many. More importantly, however, this new type of urgent care clinic could inspire other communities and health systems to add urgent care centers that specialize in mental illness, helping to address a prevalent problem around the United States. Could you one day seek mental health care at the nearest urgent care clinic? Only time will tell.

The East Greenwich urgent care facility will be available to patients ages 18 and older. Services will include onsite medical assessment, crisis psychiatry if necessary, crisis stabilization, and family education and support.

Three Things to Ask Your Dermatologist

Dermatologist oviedo fl

Dermatologists provide a number of important services for our skin, from prescribing acne treatment products to providing diagnoses and treatment for skin cancer. However, to get the best skin care advice, it is important to ask a dermatologist a number of questions to get the best possible results out of both of your efforts. For this reason, the next time you head to the dermatologist office, make sure you ask a dermatologist the questions below.

How Does This Treatment React to Sun Exposure?
While you should always be taking steps to protect yourself from harmful UV rays, certain treatments might require you to take even more caution. Some topical products and oral medications might increase your sensitivity to sunlight, or even cause some harmful side effects. Because of this, if your doctor recommends a new product, make sure you ask if you should take any steps to stay safe in the sun.

What Ingredients Should I Avoid?
Most people will also use over-the-counter products to supplement their dermatologist-recommended skin care regimen. However, it is important to ask a dermatologist if there are any commonly-used ingredients in these products that will upset your unique complexion. For example, benzoyl peroxide is often an effective choice for patients with acne, but it should be avoided if you have dry skin. Don’t make an exception just because you don’t need a prescription: ask your doctor about over-the-counter products too.

Do You Notice Any New Sun Spots, Moles, or Other Skin Changes?
You should periodically have a dermatologist conduct a skin exam to look for potential signs of skin cancer. You should also be conducting regular skin exams yourself, and head to the dermatologist if you notice any changes. However, the best way to prevent this common condition is to make sure you’re staying informed: at any appointment, ask a dermatologist if they notice any new sun damage, and how you can prevent this in the future.

Seeing a dermatologist about your skin conditions is the first step towards beautiful, healthy skin. However, to get the best results, it is important to make sure you are communicating with your doctor about your treatments, your health and how you can improve. For this reason, ask a dermatologist the three questions above at your next appointment.

What You Need to Know About Uterine Fibroids

What are the symptoms of fibroids

Even though you might have been told that uterine fibroids aren’t much to worry about, you can’t help but feel concerned, and for good reason, too. Though they’re often asymptomatic, uterine fibroids can cause huge problems.

If you’d like to put your fears to bed, you need to learn more. Here’s what you should know.

Checking the Signs and Symptoms of Fibroids.

Some of the more common symptoms of fibroid cysts include, abdominal pressure, pelvic pain, bladder issues, or even pain during intercourse, but the most common symptom is prolonged menstrual bleeding. Many women who suffer from uterine fibroids find that they soak through their sanitary protection within an hour, and that they can’t even leave the house during the days of their heaviest flow. The bleeding may become so bad, in fact, that it actually causes anemia. If you suffer from any of these symptoms, you need to see a doctor.

Diagnosing Uterine Fibroids.

To diagnosis uterine fibroids, doctors perform pelvic examination to check for an enlarged, mobile, irregular uterus. In order to confirm that fibroids are the problem, doctors will use imaging technology to see if there are new fibroids, and if the fibroids have increased in size. Doctors also need to differentiate the fibroids from other abnormalities, like ovarian masses, and to check to see if they’re causing any symptoms.

Reviewing Uterine Fibroids Treatment Options.

Luckily, there are several different uterine fibroid treatments available. There are medicinal fibroid treatments, which can help women manage their symptoms, and even shrink the cysts. There are also minimally invasive, outpatient fibroid treatments that can eliminate the fibroids without damaging any of the surrounding tissue. Failing that, there are also surgical fibroid treatments which have been proven to effectively eliminate the fibroids and any issues they may be causing.

If you’re concerned that you have fibroids, ask your doctor if she or he can check for them. If you have any questions about fibroid treatments, feel free to ask in the comments.
