The hot sticky days of summer are over and in are the cool breezy days of fall. But one thing fall is sure to bring besides pumpkins and apples is sickness, everywhere. Because of the constant drop in temperature, your immune system is more compromised and susceptible to many illnesses. In order to have a healthy and fun fall season and to limit your trip to the doctor and urgent care centers , follow these tips.
1. Get your pumpkin fix
Pumpkin is a great vegetable, chocked full of vitamins A and C. They can help to reduce cholesterol and boost your immune system. An easy way to enjoy this vegetable is making a pumpkin puree spread for sandwiches, or to snack on your roasted pumpkin seeds from that jack o’ lantern you carved a few days ago.
2. Don’t forget your flu shot
The flu likes to run rampant during this time of year, so in order to prevent spending a week away from the beautiful changing colors outside while on your couch, head to your nearest pharmacy for the flu shot. You won’t regret it!
3. Hydrate, hydrate, hydrate
Hydrating with a lot of water during the day is one of the best ways to fight against the common cold. This also goes with the foods that you eat, so stock up on probiotic filled yogurts, fruit, and nuts for some protein. After all, an apple a day keeps the doctor away!
4. Get outside
Breathing in the crisp fall air is one of the easiest ways to feel more refreshed and alert. Get off social media, and get outside! An easy walk a day will do wonders for your vitamin d levels, your mood, and can even help keep your weight on track.
5. Stay away from candy cravings
Of course it is good to indulge, but you need to be diligent that you do not get too indulgent during the Halloween season. Consuming all of that sugar is bad for your health and will make you feel tired from the sugar crashes. Wait to buy Halloween candy until the day of so you are not tempted to eat, and only buy enough for the trick-or-treaters!
